Programs


HEALTHY KIDS!
is the Child Abuse and Neglect Council of Lincoln County.

Healthy Kids offers the following school-based programs:

Responding to Child Abuse is a three hour workshop focused on the role of the mandated reporter. Topics covered include: physical and behavioral indicators of abuse and neglect, causes and effects of abuse,statistics, guidelines for reporting, when to report, how to report and what happens after a report is made. The workshop format includes video, discussion and small group exercises.

Talking about Touching is a sexual abuse prevention program for pre-school through grade four. Topics covered include: recognizing safe and unsafe situations, saying no, not keeping secrets and identifying adults to talk to about unsafe or uncomfortable situations. A companion program for parents is also available. Talking About Touching is based on the Committee for Children Talking about Touching curriculum.

How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk is a four week parenting workshop series emphasizing positive approaches to discipline, communication and cooperation. The curriculum includes group work, discussion, video and excerpts from the book "How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk."

Dignified Discipline is a condensed two-hour version of the four week parenting series How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk. In the shortened format, Dignified Discipline highlights positive approaches to discipline, communication and cooperation.

Baby Think it Over is a school-based progam that aims to help students make informed decisions about pregnancy and parenting by letting them actually experience being the parent of a newborn. In addition to the workshop portion of the program, participants parent an electronic baby for an overnight period. Students must feed, burp, comfort, dress, change diapers, and respond to crying and other infant cues. The workshop concludes with a facilitated follow-up discussion in which participants share their observations and experience.
